Dildo is a small town located between South Dildo and New Harbour. The community, which is a local service district, is on Route 80 about 80 minutes from St. John's and 30 minutes from Bay Roberts and Carbonear.

The town's unusual name brings many visitors who have their pictures taken with the town sign. These visitors are pleasantly surprised to discover they have found a real treasure!

"Prettiest Small Town"
Dildo, which Harrowsmith Magazine has named one of prettiest small towns in Canada, offers visitors B&Bs, efficiency units, vacation homes, craft stores, food stores and restaurants. Pitcher's Pond Golf Course is only about 20 minutes away. Marine mammals, seabirds, and other wildlife have populated the area for centuries, and it is common to see whales frolicking in the harbour. The town has a growing marina used for pleasure boats and fishing boats. Sailing on the tour boat the Irish Mist, tourists can visit historic Dildo Island.

A boat tour in Dildo Arm and Dildo Island enables the visitor to see whales, seabirds, birds of prey, fish, and plants in their natural setting. Interpretational boat tours are available to Dildo Island, where remnants of the island's fascinating history can be seen, including archaeological sites that have yielded a great deal of information about the Recent Indian and the Dorset Eskimo, and the remains of the first Cod Fish Hatchery in the province.
Dildo Area Interpretation Centre

The Centre provides interpretation of the 19th Century cod fish hatchery located on Dildo Island between 1889-1897. Aquariums and a touch tank also house different species of marine life. Outside, a small heritage fish room has been constructed, this includes a fishing stage, landing wharf and a fish drying flake. A replica of a giant squid caught in Dildo in 1933 can also be seen here.
