early lifestyles and commerce of the area, as well as a
genealogy data base.
Preservation
of the History of Boat Building
The Winterton Boat Building Museum most important function
is the preservation of Winterton's unique history and art
of boat building. Unlike the practice at many other museums,
in Winterton the boat building exhibit is an interactive
one. The Museum is actively preserving the history of boat
building by allowing individuals from the community to construct
traditional trap skiffs. Many times visitors were very surprised
to watch the actual building of these boats in full view.
Winterton
is one place on the island where the traditional methods
and skills of wooden boat building are being revived and
preserved.
