Experiencing
the weather on the Baccalieu Trail is part of the adventure.
The weather can vary greatly, even from one minute to another.
(There is a saying in province that you can experience all
four seasons in one day!) However, there is a positive benefit
from the location of the Bay de Verde peninsula (where the
Baccalieu Trail is situated.) Being almost surrounded by
the Atlantic Ocean ensures that the weather seldom gets
too hot in summer. You will experience a fresh, comfortable
ocean breeze almost everywhere on the Trail in summer.
Here
is a quote from Yahoo! about the climate:
"Newfoundland's
climate varies quite a bit, from the moderate temperatures
enjoyed by the island to the extremes found in Labrador.
...average temperatures in St. John's during January run
18 to 30 F/-8 to -1 C, with snow that sometimes turns to
rain. Even so, only the. hardiest travelers will want to
go in the winter, especially by ferry. Summer is the best
time to visit, though an autumn-color tour in early fall
can also be enjoyable. In summer, the coasts will be cooler
and foggier than inland. Expect coastal temperatures to
peak around 70 F/21 C most July and August days, though
it can get warmer. You'll want a jacket for evenings, when
temperatures drop to the low to mid 50s F/10-12 C. September
highs only reach the low 60s F/15-17 C, so be prepared.
Take along rain gear any time of year."
