Photos of Winterton

The community of Winterton, once known as Scilly Cove, is one of the oldest in the province with a recorded history that goes back to the 17century. It has headstones dating back to the 1700s.

The name was changed to Winterton in 1912 to honor a former Newfoundland Prime Minister, Sir James S. Winter. The town has two walking trails: the Sugarloaf Trail and the Outside Pond Park Trail, which are connected to a large trail along the shoreline of Lower Trinity South.

The Winterton Boat Building Museum, which was awarded the prestigious Manning Award of Excellence for 2002 by the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, celebrates the skill and ingenuity of Winterton's boat builders. The facility has full-size boats, constructed and used in the town, plus all the tools employed to build and sail them.
