On October 14th, the Baccalieu Trail Tourism Association sponsored an all day workshop "Keeping Newfoundland Irish Traditions ALIVE! Connecting Our Irish Roots." featuring Irish Artists Michael Fortune & Aileen LambertBios - MS Word > > at the SUF Lodge in Bay Roberts. The event, which was attended by Barry Snow, Executive Director of Ireland Business Partnerships and Ray Johnson of Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, focused on observing the methods used by Michael and Aileen to preserve Irish culture, determining the similarities between Irish and Baccalieu Trail culture, and determining how their methods could be applied in the Baccalieu Trail region to preserve traditional culture. Most people in attendance were amazed at the many similarities between the two cultures, in terms of traditions and language; especially in this region, where Irish heritage has not been highlighted in the past. Fairy stories were one large area of commonality. Another was use of language. Michael and Aileen were intrigued by the legend of the Irish Princess, Sheila NaGeira and the Pirate, Peter Easton, which they had never heard before.

Their photos provide images of the region that could never be described in words. The names of the photographers are listed with almost all the photos. If you wish to contact one of the photographers to obtain a copy of a particular photograph for framing, please contact our office and we will provide appropriate contact information.
Lloyd Rees, Joyce Morgan, and Barry C. Parsons - three of the photographers who have contributed many pictures to the Northern Avalon Website have their own Blogs. All are worth a number of visits - they both update frequently and one visit will only scratch the surface!
